“For Mum's 70th the four of us wrote out every dish she used to cook for us, from memory, and put them in one hardback notebook. We got most of the quantities wrong. Two of us remembered the same Sunday dinner completely differently and both versions went in, on facing pages, with our names on them.
It cost the price of the notebook. She read it at the table for about forty minutes and did not open anything else that afternoon.
She has since corrected it in pen throughout, which we should have seen coming.”
