25th anniversary · from a child · £50–150

Our daughter gave us a tree for our silver anniversary and dug the hole herself before telling us, which removed the question of where it was going.

It is not a remarkable tree. It is a rowan, about my height at the time, in the corner of the garden where nothing else had ever done well.

The thing nobody warns you about a tree as a present is that you then watch it every single year. It is the only gift we have had that is bigger now than when it arrived.
