“He framed a second-hand Ordnance Survey map of the area we spent our first weekend in, and marked nothing on it at all.
I asked why there was no cross or heart or date on it and he said the whole point was that we would each know, and that writing it on would be telling the wrong person.
It hangs in the hall and visitors read it as a map, which is the other half of the point. Nobody stops to ask about it, and neither of us has ever had to explain it to anyone. It cost about eleven pounds including the frame.”
